Summary

My name is Ben Cottage and I am Lead Environment Artist currently working at Splash Damage.

My story began after I left school with only 2 GCSE's at a C grade. I had no motivation and no direction to what career path I wanted to take.

I then heard the song “Mad World” come on the TV….you know where I am going with this right? Ever since I saw that advert I spent all my paper round money on a Xbox 360 that came with Gears of War. I loved this game so much that I competed in tournaments with my friends and we eventually become 8th best clan in Europe. However, Gears of War was more to me than just a game. It opened my eyes to game art. Never before have I noticed art in games like I did with Gears of War. From this I downloaded 3DS Max and started to shove polygons around not really knowing what I was doing. This is what I wanted to do with the rest of my life; this is what I wanted to do as a hobby, as a job. I finally found my motivation and direction that I had been missing. From this I went on to graduate with a First degree at Hertfordshire University who have established themselves to be one of the the best Game Art courses in the world. I am now a Lead Environment artist at Splash Damage working on the franchise that started my passion for game art..
